The Novak
Who: Izzy, Carmen, and whoever else
When: Tuesday, later on
Where: The Novak
What: Getting to know you... (or killing time)
Rating: PG (probably for language)

Izzy is sitting cross-legged on the tuffet, her sketchbook open and in her lap. She is taking a bit of time to relax, get away from the hustle and bustle of the hallways of people she doesn't really know. So, she sits and sketches.

Carmen made her way down the hall and into the Novak excitedly. Two more hours until she was officially a Glamazon. The thought made her positively giddy. She'd had a permanant smile plastered on her face the whole day. Her cheek muscles were beginning to hurt, but she didn't care.

She rushed to the mirror to check her appearance. Today was the first day of the rest of her life here at Kennedy. She needed to look good. She looked at her reflection, running her fingers through her wavy brown hair.

"You look great. There's no need to be nervous. You had the best audition. Brooke smiled at you. You're a shoe in," Carmen said to herself in a low tone.

She started when a movement in the mirror caught her eye. A girl sitting in the middle of the Novak, was sketching on a sketchpad. She spun around.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was in here." She blushed at having been caught talking to herself.

She pauses in her sketches as someone comes in, looking up. She looks a bit bemused as the girl starts either talking to herself, of well, is talking to Izzy. When it becomes clear that the girl is not talking to her, she smiles a bit, looking down at her sketchbook, giving the girl privacy.

It takes her a moment to realize she is being directly spoken to, looking surprised, albeit pleasantly so. A shy, but warm smile.

"Don't worry about it. If I were having the day it sounds like you're having, I'd be missing a person here or there, too."
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 04:39 am (UTC)
"Yeah, well I doubt that anyone is having as good of a day as I am." Carmen offered the girl a big smile. She was floating on the clouds. She tilted her head slightly. She was sure she'd never seen this girl before. "Hi, I'm Carmen. Are you new to Kennedy?"
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 04:43 am (UTC)
"It's nice to meet you, Carmen. I'm Izzy." Her smile turns a bit rueful, "No, not new to Kennedy. Just.. stayed low key, last year."

She quickly adds, "what's made your day so good?"
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 04:48 am (UTC)
She went to Kennedy last year? "Well it's not official or anything, but I'm going to be on the Glamazons!" Just saying the words made her stomach flutter.
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 04:51 am (UTC)
"Congratulations!" There is a slight hesitation as she runs her fingers through her hair, sounding a bit sheepish. "Are the Glamazons one of the school's sports teams?"
Carmen Ferrara: yo mamaluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 04:57 am (UTC)
Carmen frowned, caught off guard at the girl's question. "You're kidding, right?"
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 04:59 am (UTC)
She looks down briefly at the frown. "No, not kidding. Just clueless. Enlighten me?" That said with a slightly forced smile.

Carmen looked away contrite. Not everyone is consumed with thoughts of cheerleading she reminded herself. Still the Glamazons were the Glamazons. "Sorry, I was just sort of surprised. The Glamazons are cheerleaders. I tried out for the squad yesterday."
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 05:08 am (UTC)
She relaxes a little, the smile no longer forced, seeing she hasn't horribly offended this girl who seems so nice. "It's okay, like I said, I'm kinda clueless."

Her tone is impressed now, as well as congratulatory. "That's really awesome! Congratulations."
Carmen Ferrara: in glassesluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 05:22 am (UTC)
"Thanks!" Carmen's smile quickly returned to her face. "But like I said, it's not official."

Silence fell between them, as Carmen was at a loss as to what to say. She tilted her head and looked at the sketchpad.

"What are you drawing?"
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 05:28 am (UTC)
"Then I guess I'll have to congratulate you again when it is. I mean, if I see you again." A smile.

As the silent becomes awkward, she becomes more visibly shy, quite relieved when Carmen comes up with something to say.

"Oh, uh... " She hesitates, then offers Carmen the sketchbook to see, if anything, more shy. "Easier shown than told, really."

If/when accepted, she will find it is a pencil sketch of something that seems right out of a fairy tale: A beautiful glade surrounded by trees, in the middle of it, a glass bier, though the light seems to be reflecting so that one can't make out anything more than a vague humanoid shape within. Even without colour, it's life-life. Clearly, this is something she excels at.

Carmen took the proffered book, not really sure what to expect. She looked at the sketch, immediately drawn in by the beauty and realism of the scene. The picture is so peaceful but lonely. "You drew this?"
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 05:39 am (UTC)
She nods somewhat self-consciously, not having really expected that response, or knowing what to say. "Yes..."
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 05:42 am (UTC)
"These are really good. You...you should like have your work published. Is that what they do? I'm not sure of the terminology." Carmen looked over at the girl expectantly.
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 05:44 am (UTC)
Again her head ducks self-consciously, blushing a bit, but her smile is clearly pleased. "Thanks... and well, published doesn't really happen for artists. More like have our work sold. But that's really hard to do."
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 05:48 am (UTC)
Carmen nodded along. "Well, right I can imagine. Still this is really good." It was a shame that so many artists never got a chance to share their talents. "Hey," she started as an idea came to her. "My friend Sam was just named editor the school paper. I'm sure she could use like a comic strip or something." She hoped Sam wouldn't be mad at her for this suggestion.
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 05:51 am (UTC)
Again, that look of pleased surprise returns. "Thanks." Her smile brightens a little, "Wow, it is a good day to be in your group of friends: one of you is editor of the schoolnewspaper and you're in the Glamazons. I'm impressed."

Her head tilts to the side as she considers, "And a comic strip would be really cool, though I've never really tried to write one before. If your friend wanted one, I'd be happy to try."
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 05:58 am (UTC)
"We do seem to be running into some good luck." Carmen looked down at her watch. "Shoot, I have to get to my last class. It was nice meeting you Izzy, and if you're serious about the comic strip, I'll uh talk to Sam." She turned and looked at the girl expectantly.
izzy_jamesonizzy_jameson on December 17th, 2006 06:01 am (UTC)
Izzy glances up at the clock on the wall at the reminder of time and sighs. "Yeah, I should probably get to class, too." A smile, "And I'd really like that. Thank you, Carmen."
Carmen Ferrara: smilingluves2dance on December 17th, 2006 06:09 am (UTC)
"Anytime," Carmen said before turning and walking out of the bathroom.
