Who: Sam, Jane, and eventually Cat
When: Early Friday Morning
Where: The Santa Monica Rehab Center/Outside of Cat's door
What: Picking Cat up
Rating: PG-13ish

Jane had had a hard time getting to sleep the night before. The excitement of having her youngest daughter home for the first time in three long months. Jane felt like she'd waited for this moment forever. Now that she was finally here, she had a sudden attack of nerves. What if Cat wasn't ready to come home?

Jane looked over at Sam, trying to gage the stoic girl's emotions at this very moment. Sam had been really great on the car ride over. The usually hectic forty-five minute drive was made in record speed due to the early hour, and the fact that Jane had rambled on for most of the drive. But Sam had been a good sport, answering her somewhat innane questions and just generally making idle chitchat. However, since they'd left the car, Sam had fallen silent once again, her face devoid of any emotion.

Jane smiled over at her, trying to be reassuring. She wasn't sure if it was for Sam's benefit or her own. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts she asked, "Are you ready?"

Her high was wearing off. She was first aware of this fact during the long car ride home from the party -- the silence drumming in her ears. She was able to confirm it once they arrived home and she stumbled out of the car into the night. Caitlin noticed that stepping onto the grass in her barefeet was not nearly as exciting as it had been when Sam picked her up. No longer was it the most sensational experience she had EVER undergone. Now it was just cold and wet. Very cold. And very wet.

With a frown, she followed her twin towards the front door. As Sam moved to unlock the door, she began searching the pockets of her hoodie for another tablet...another hit to bring that feeling back.

Jane sighed as she sat down on the couch. She took a moment to look around. There were pictures of Joe and the girls littering the walls and a few on the shelves. It reminded her of happier times. She was determined to get those times back as best she could. That, of course, depended on the cooperation of her two lovely daughters. One of which had been too silent all summer.

Sam had seemed to shut herself off from the world. Jane was afraid she would lose Sam too if she didn't do something soon. First thing she needed to do was try to help mend things between her and Cat. Taking a deep breath she took the first step.

"Sam, would you come here for a moment? I want to talk to you about something."

Who: Cat and Jane (via phone)
When: Sometime before Cat's last journal entry
Where: Santa Monica Rehab Center/McPherson House
What: Phone conversation
Rating: PG/PG-13

Apparently spending the summer in rehab was no reason not to complete the summer reading and so Cat was spending her final days at the clinic forcing herself to finish Great Expectations .

She had never liked Dickens. Her version of A Christmas Carol involved muppets. And so she was VERY glad when the phone rang. She didn't get many calls and so knew it had to be either her mother or her therapist but she didn't care. Any distraction was a good distraction.

"This is Cat..."

Who: Nicole and Brooke
When: Sometime during the last week of Summer
Where: The Mall
What: Buying fabulous things, of course
Rating: PG

School shopping was, without a doubt, the best part of the upcoming school year. Not for books or pencils or any of those things -- no one cared about those. The best part of school shopping was the clothes. Which was exactly what Nicole had in mind for that afternoon.

Pulling up in front of the McQueen house, Nicole honked twice and waited for Brooke to appear.
